The show is from December 3-12 in Waltham. There are 40 singers, 150 young performers, and a live orchestra. This dress rehearsal was on Monday, December 1.

In 1895, Augustus Van Wickle and his wife, Bessie Pardee Van Wickle, purchased 70 acres of waterfront land in Bristol, RI and named it Blithewold (Old English for "happy woodland"). They built a large, Queen Anne style mansion, and moved in during the summer of 1896. They would reside at Blithewold from May until November. Bessie hired John DeWolf, Bristol landscape architect and Superintendent of Prospect Park, New York City, to help implement her vision of a horticultural sanctuary. "

Going through my files I decided to make a short multi-media presentation of the event mixing a few of the published photos with some, I liked, but that did not make publication. The skies were threatening. I felt a few rain drops but graduation went on without a hitch and with a toss of their caps the Class of 2010 was on their way

Richard Smart house in Sherborn, MA is demolished

According to the Sherborn Historical Society "Richard Smart was a Civil War veteran and carpenter. He had been a resident of Brighton (MA) prior to moving to Sherborn. Before Smart built the house there, the lot had been owned by the Flaggs across the street and divided into three lots by stonewalls." On Tuesday, June 22, the Richard Smart house was demolished. Built as a Victorian, renovations in the 1960s included the "front bay and piazzas removed and the front colonialized." The property situated next to town hall comprises about 2.5 acres and was acquired, by the town, for about $500,000.

This is a 1935 Stout Scarab there were 9 built and only 5 are known to have survived. These cars are considered by some to be the first mini-van. This car is owned by the Detroit Historical Society and is one of many cars on display as part of the current exhibit "Curve Appeal" at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline, Massachusetts.

WELLESLEY COUNCIL ON AGING VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION LUNCHON

Over 133 people volunteer at the Wellesley (MA) Council on Aging. Today Tuesday, April 21, they were honored at a luncheon held in the Wellesley Community Center. Gayle Thieme, LSW the Director of Senior Services read a letter of appreciation that included either the first or last name of every volunteer.

I figured, it couldn’t hurst to sit and wright about the hills you’ve helped us climb over the last year! To be blount, it would be terrible to not have you. Through your volunteer work, you’ve tessted yourselves and though you may have been O’leary of our quirks, you have pressed on and Sarahficed and donnated your own time to servis others. In my eyes, you are the kings and queens of McCourt. Despite snow or Krisp cool days and ruthless wendy conditions, you have clairfully reifled your way to the COA! Your tarlints cohencide beautifully with the hodge podge of activities our clientele choose to pursue. You all deserve an award ! You are a fleet of troopers with high standards. You deserve to be pampered and glaurafied! I want to give each of you a rose! You’ve costas nothing! People fisher high and low to find volunteers like you who perform such plouffection! There is nothing skandalous or gross about the COA and we don’t make our volunteers take a pollygraph, so tell all your friends, cousins and that ol son of yours that hans down, the COA is a great place to volunteer, you’ve got nothing to lewis!

If you’ve been fannatasizing about tryan something new at the COA, cummin talk with me about the maryiad of options. Maybe I can introduce you to a nu gent or suggest a new opportunity for you to explore. Alisan here, there is nothing dummer than louisen out on something you want or being worrisome, so litten up…. use that andrenaline of yours and schulerly, you’ll be glad you didn’t let the opportunity pass you beyer.

Of course, the recent senior center debates made us all twitchell, it was the toughest war we ever shaw! We had been feeling frantic and eleanored, I mean - ignored… But, “Holly Smolski”… - “Oh by gosh baghailly Mihalsky”…., the bowers that be saw us through! “Rao-Shah - hiss boom bah!” “Jimminy Cricket!” You betty believe it, I am as proud as a peacock! Thank Godderidge! It did take a town to achieve this and we all ought to pause toussaint Billie Tolles! I think she is sagan our praises because this is a gajillian years overdue! Belise me when I tell you that this is a millstone for the COA! Soon we can kiss these barbaraic stark ages goodbye! We will look forward to a fancy- snancy briand new billding of our own, something we’ve been joansin for. Just think, a place for you all to millerbout and you cannava maura health and recreational activities at the loist cost possible! There could be a garden to grow herbs or buds on!

So, volunteers plisa hear me when I say to be frank, you have madden incredible impression on me and really should be patten yourselves on the back. Thank you and God bless!!!

The New Art Center, 61 Washington Park in Newtonville, has been offering art classes and exhibitions for the past 31 years.

Each term, more than 80 classes are offered for students of all ages and skill levels. Everyone from novices looking to learn about art to experienced artists looking for critical feedback, and those in between, can be found in the programs offered at the New Art Center.

“I just adore this place,” said Susan Bazett, a Newton resident who has taken classes on and off for 20 years at the New Art Center. “I’m addicted to it ... the teachers are so fantastic ... I’m going to stay here until the day I die ... I love this place.”

The New Art Center presents five to six exhibitions a year in its 2,000-square-foot Main Gallery, which are free and open to the public. The Holzwasser Gallery also presents five to six exhibitions a year, showcasing the work of New Art Center faculty and students.

“We would be happy to give anyone a tour anytime,” said Ceci Mendez, director of exhibitions, who encourages residents to visit.

Skating in the SHADE, a partnership between the SHADE Foundation of America and FMC Arenas kicked off 8 weeks of free skating and skate rentals at the Jim Roche Community Ice Arena at 1275 VFW Parkway in West Roxbury on Wednesday, June 25. The purpose of the program is to offer an alternative to being out in the sun when the UV rays are at their most dangerous.

This year more than 1,000,000 people will be diagnosed with some form of skin cancer. Skin cancer is the fastest growing cancer and affects more people than prostate, breast, colorectal, and cervical cancer combined according to the SHADE Foundation of America.

The SHADE Foundation of America, was started by melanoma survivor, Shondra Schilling, wife of Red Sox ace Curt Schilling. It is “dedicated to eradicating melanoma through the education of children and the community in the prevention and detection of skin cancer and the promotion of sun safety.”

Comfort Restaurant & Bar has recently opened above the Persian Restaurant Molena at 5 Spring Street. Owner Andrew Ward says the burger is outstanding and the mac and cheese can’t be beat.
