The 126th running of the Boston Marathon took place on Monday, April 18, 2022. 

The Boston Marathon is said to be the world's largest annual marathon, traditionally held on Patriots' Day, the third Monday of April. The Boston Marathon is one of the world's top road racing events. 

The event estimates about 500,000 spectators each year, making it New England's most  attended sporting event. Starting with 18 participants in 1897, it now attracts an average of about 30,000 registered participants each year.
