DRIVE LIKE A BOSS AT AUTOCROSS

AUTOCROSS IS BACK FOR 2022 !!!

Story and Photos by Keith E. Jacobson

The Bay State Corvette Club ran their first autocross of the season on Sunday, April 10th. For those not familiar with the event their web site says: " Autocross is a form of motorsports that emphasizes safe, low-cost competition and active participation. An autocross is a timed competition where drivers navigate one at a time through a temporary course marked by traffic cones, rather than racing on a track with multiple other cars, as in road racing or oval racing.

Autocross tends to place more emphasis on car handling and driver skill than on sheer horsepower, and events typically have many classes which allow almost any vehicle, from economy sedans to purpose-built vehicles, to compete.

Speeds are slower in absolute terms when compared to other forms of motorsports, usually not exceeding highway speeds, but the activity level (measured in discrete turns per minute) can be higher than even Formula One due to the large number of elements packed into each course.

Autocross courses are typically 40 to 70 seconds in length. In addition to being a national-level motorsport in its own right, autocrossing is a good way to learn skills that transfer to road racing, as drivers learn vehicle control and club ethics."

THE LAST HURRAH

Story and Photos by Keith E. Jacobson

On Sunday, November 11, 2021, Boch Exotics held a Cars & Coffee event. The cars were packed like sardines in a can. A sign said, "once you park there is no leaving until the end of the event" ... you couldn't get out. This was the closest I have ever been to going to a corn maze.

Sunny with temperatures in the high 50s it was a cool but pleasant day. My C7 will be put away, for the season, in the next day or two so this was the finale for me.

As always there were some interesting cars. A Ferrari Monza SP2 owned by Ernie Boch Jr. drew a lot of attention. Not street legal because of the lack of a wind shield. This very limited production car is priced somewhere around the two million dollar mark.

Being so crowded it was difficult to get clear shots of many of the cars. Rarely do I take shots of the cars as they exit but this would be the best opportunity to get some clean pictures. Standing by the side of the road watching many drivers put the pedal to the metal I thought of YouTube videos with Mustangs wiping out as they nailed the accelerator. I hoped none would crash into me. Well, a GT40 went past me nailed it spun out and ended up jumping a curb and ended up in some bushes. Driver was arrested. Expensive day for someone?

Everyone seemed to enjoy seeing the Weinermobile

Great seeing old and new friends and lots of awesome cars!!!

It's been been a great season with so much to see and do. I am already looking forward to the 2022 season. Have a healthy and safe off season. As always ... SEE YOU ON THE ROAD
